San Luis Fiesta ‘09 Day 1: Agro-Tourism Fair

Farmers and fisherfolks attended the opening of the agro-tourism fair last Friday August 21, 2009. Mayor Annabelle Tangson and Vice Mayor Teddy Macatiag together with Mayor Jessie Palican of Parregada Guam and Sangguniang Bayan Member Leslie E. Lu of San Pedro led the cutting of the ribbon shown in the picture above.

The Agro-tourism fair is one of the highlights of the 50th Founding Anniversary and Patronal Town Fiesta of San Luis, Aurora. It aims to showcase the municipality’s agriculture products, processed foods and handicrafts such as hats and fans made of sabutan and baskets and the different tourist attractions of the different barangays in San Luis.
The opening ceremony was held after the motorcade participated in by the Binibining San Luis candidates, Philippine National Police, municipal employees, non-government organizations, Sangguniang Kabataan, barangay officials, Rural Improvement Clubs, SEAK’s, farmers associations, San Luis National High School Band and other people from San Luis.
During the opening ceremony, various awards were also given for various contests. L. Pimentel Sangguniang Barangay and RIC won the First Prize for the Gulayan para sa Kalusugan contest out of 25 entries while Barangay Dibayabay won the1st Prize for the Booth Competition. There were also various “pinaka” contests like longest sitaw, biggest squash, longest upo, biggest gabi, biggest chicken and many more.
Mayor Annabelle C. Tangson awarded Palay Marketing Assitance for Legislator & LGU (PALGU) with the amount of P300,000.00. She also awarded 6 units of various materials for non-motorized banca (baroto) to Samahang Mangingisda ng Brgy. Dikapinisan, a guard house and 20 sets of uniforms and equipments for the fish wardens of Barangay Dibut, and a unit of motor engine to Alasanay Fisherfolks Association. Mayor Tangson also awarded P15,000 amount of assistance for white corn production and cornick processing to RIC – Nonong Sr. There were also 10 sprayers from the Department of Agriculture Region 3 awarded to all barangays who participated in the agro-tourism fair.
Also present during the opening ceremony of agro-tourism fair were Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Mariano C. Tangson, Sangguniang Bayan Members Francisco Maliwanag, Jayson G. Martinez, Norminda S. Querijero, MAFC Chairman Ramon Pabillo, Pestejos 2009 President Annaliza C. Tangson and Atty. Adolfo V. Nabor.
This year, the agro-tourism fair is chaired by the Municipal Agriculturist Ma. Paz S. Leander and her staff from the Municipal Agriculture Office, Municipal Engineering Office and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office as her members.
