The Municipality of San Luis launched the Palengkehan ng Bayan last March 05, 2010. This will be operated every Friday at San Luis Public Market starting at 4:00 in the morning. It was participated by the South Aurora Vegetable Growers Association thru the initiative of the Municipal Agriculture Office of San Luis headed by Ms. Ma. Paz Leander. This activity aims to reinforce the markets stability through selling goods and other products locally produced by the people of San Luis.

The launching and the weekly operation of this Palengkehan ng Bayan were attended by the supportive Mayor Annabelle C. Tangson together with the department heads and employees of the Municipality of San Luis.

The Sipag at Tiyaga Caravan of Sen. Manny Villar together with Mayor Tangson sponsored a Free Livelihood Demo Training on pineapple processing like juice, jam and marmalade making, malunggay juice and squash pastillas Making at San Luis Sports Complex.

The said training was attended by around 450 persons mostly women members of Rural Improvement Club (RIC), SEA-K members, farmers, students and mothers. Professors from ASCOT Food Technology Department serve as resource persons.

Also present during the training was Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Honorable Mariano C. Tangson.

The Local Government Unit through the Municipal Agriculture Office in coordination with the Agriculture Training Institute conducted the Pineapple Production Training and Marketing at Barangay Ditumabo last May 7 and 8, 2009. Resource person are from Bataaan Peninsula State University headed by Dr. Arturo Allegado, Dean of Instruction and Prof. Benedicto Torres. Attended by a total of 60 pineapple farmers from Barangay Nonong Sr. and Ditumabo, the said training aims to increase production and quality of fruits and establish market linkage for the said product.

In line with the implementation of Pro-Poor Programs, the Municipality of San Luis in coordination with DSWD, Regional Office III is actively organizing SEA-Kaunlaran Associations in all the 18 barangays targeting the most vulnerable sectors of women and families for their livelihood capital assistance. For the past 5 months since December 2008, a total of ten (10) SEA-K Associations with 272 members were given capital assistance amounting to one million pesos by DSWD Region III and the Municipality of San Luis, Aurora.

No less than Dr. Minda B. Brigoli, CSEE, DSWD Regional Director together with Ms. Mely S. Pangilinan, Operations Division Chief personally awarded the P150,000.00 capital assistance to Masikap SEA-K Association at Brgy. San Isidro, San Luis, Aurora together with our Municipal Mayor Annabelle C. Tangson and the MSWD Staff of San Luis, Aurora.

Likewise, the SEA-K Associations serve as a venue for advocacy on reproductive health, nutrition, responsible parenthood and other related issues and concerns affecting women and family. SEA-K members are also required to undertake community work at least one day a week such as in maintaining the cleanliness and beautification of their puroks.

The Technology Demonstration Farm of pineapple located at Sitio Hacienda, Barangay Nonong Sr., San Luis, Aurora is the first and the only one in Aurora. The said project is funded by CLARRDEC (Central Luzon Agriculture Resources and Research Development Consortium) in collaboration with PCCARD (Philippine Council for Agriculture Resource and Research Development), ASCOT (Aurora State of College of Technology) and the Local Government of San Luis. This project which started last May 2008 and will end on year 2010. It was requested by Mayor Annabelle C. Tangson from CLARDEC in order to upgrade the knowledge of pineapple farmers in terms of new technology as well as to increase the yield and improve the quality of pineapple in San Luis.

Aurora Hats and Crafts owner, Miss Analiza C. Tangson received a Plaque of Recognition from the National OTOP Program Management Office and Central Luzon MSME/ OTOP Team for having been adjudged as the Outstanding One Town One Product MSME in the Province of Aurora thus, earning for itself an automatic nomination to the 2008 OTOP Search for the Outstanding OTOP MSME in Central Luzon.

The said award was given by USEC Nerly M. Cruz, National OTOP Program Coordinator and Regional Director Blesila A. Lantayona, Convenor of CL-MSME/ OTOP Team last November 20, 2008 during the 2008 Central Luzon OTOP Conference & Awarding at the King’s Royale Hotel, Bacolor, Pampanga.

Prior to this award, Aurora Hats and Crafts have also been awarded as 2008 Most Outstanding OTOP SME Award by the Provincial Government of Aurora and the Aurora SME/OTOP Team last October 24, 2008 during the 2008 OTOP Recognition & Awarding Ceremonies at AMCO Beach Resort, Baler, Aurora. The said award was given in recognition to its utmost cooperation extended to the Local Government Unit and partner agencies; and for investing in its own resources in promoting the OTOP Program thereby contributing to the local economy in terms of employment generation and increase in trade.
