KASAYSAYAN NG BARANGAY DITUMABO

Along the Pacific Ocean lays the former town of Tayabas, Quezon (now AURORA) . It is considered the largest province in the Philippines. Quezon is the Mother Province of then sub-province of Aurora. It has eight municipalities including the municipality of San Luis. San Luis is a former sitio of Baler and it was become a municipal through an Executive Order # 264 was issued creating the Municipality of San Luis, while sitio Ditumabo was declared Barangay under the municipality of San Luis.

The aetas who are found of naming places starting with alphabet “D” name one of the rivers they have crossed which is 15 kilometers southeast of Baler. Ditumabo and its term according to the story of barrio people run this way.

There live a couple of aetas in one of the angles crossing the trail river whose only survival is catching fish and wild animals. One day, a Christian-Tagalog went hunt along the said river. Unfortunately, he lost his way. As he walked with each other, they knelt with his heads up and his hand clasped together and said “ako po ay naliligaw…saan po kaya ang tamang daan?” The couple did not answer instead they pointed out to river with the word “DI-LI-TU-MA-BO “. He thanked them and found the way. Upon reaching home, he narrated the story to his family and neighbors. From then, whenever Christian Tagalog hunts to the said place they always utter the term “DITUMABO”.

During the Japanese occupation, the families of Amazona, Villareal, Macatiag, Morillo, Nery, Bautista, and the families of Sarenas and Herminigildo occupied Ditumabo. It was former sitio of then Barrio of Baler. Because of its physical features, which are favorable for better living, people migrated to the place. In 1959, when the sitio of Ditumabo became a real barangay, Mr.Antonio Amazona became the Lieutenant. He was replaced by Mr. Isidro Macatiag in 1960. In 1962 to 1963, Mr. Amazona again become the barrio Leutenant followed by Hon. Celestino Padua, Hon. Benedicto P. Trinidad, Hon. Gabriel Subad, Hon. Juan Marzan, Hon. Eugenio Verances, and Hon. Meyanardo R. Amazona, the present Barangay Captain and the youngest son of the first Barrio Leutenant of Ditumabo.

Presently, Ditumabo has 8,214 hectares land area with a total population of 3,321 as of 2007 NSO Population Count. The main source of income is agriculture. The total estimated for BY 2008 is P 1,235,386.00.
